Scaffold and permits
What the city can ask, and when we ask it
Rules differ by street and by building. We find out which apply and tell you in writing.
Scaffold on the sidewalk or in the street
Scaffold or a pole in the public right of way can need a city permit. We prepare the application and tell you the fee before we file.
Historic districts and landmarks
Some districts and landmark buildings review exterior changes, color included. We ask before we order paint.
Neighbors and cars
A note goes to the neighbors before the scaffold goes up, and cars on the street move on the day it is set.
Your HOA or building manager
We send a color board and a certificate of insurance on request.
Season
When the scaffold season runs
San Francisco's dry months are the exterior season. Fog and wind set the daily rhythm.
Exterior painting
Dry weather. Summer mornings are foggy, so sunny sides come first.
May to Oct
Scaffold paperwork
Filing ahead means the scaffold goes up on the day you want.
Mar to Apr
Color consult and boards
Boards go up in winter light and again in spring.
Jan to Apr
Interior and trim repair
Rainy months suit work inside and wood repair in the shop.
Nov to Mar
Scaffold
Set with rails, toe boards and ties
